Hooks Hardware Basics

Hooks are used to hang various objects such as clothes, bags, kitchen utensils and cables onto walls, furniture and other equipment.
In this section, learn the basics about the different types of unique hooks that Sugatsune offers, and how to choose between them.

What is a hook?

A hook is used to hang various items and can be attached to walls, furniture, or within devices. In English, it is referred to as a "hook," and depending on its shape and use, it can also be called a hanger, hat rack, or coat hanger.

Types of Hooks

Choose by Shape

Standard Hooks

Standard, general-purpose wall-mounted hooks come in a wide range of designs. A variety of hooks is offered to suit different tastes, including antique, modern, and luxury designs.

Double hooks that hang two or more objects and swing hooks that rotate left and right are also available. As shown in the video, some of our swing hooks are frictionless while others are not.
Silicone Rubber Hooks

These safety hooks are made with silicone rubber, to protect small children in case of accidental bumps. The range includes a number of hooks with lovely rounded shapes, while the metal core inside each hook provide ample load capacity.

Magnetic Hooks

Magnetic hooks can be attached to fridges, metal cabinets and so on using magnetic force.

Latch Hooks

Latch hooks have a ring-shaped hook, a section of which moves up and down. This movable section clicks back into place when the hook is in use, preventing hanging objects from falling off. Some types can rotate 90° left and right, while others can be used with a padlock for extra security.

Recessed Hooks

Recessed hooks are designed to be unobtrusive, with the hook tip folding away when not in use.

Models that can be mounted to the underside of counter tops are also offered.
Doorstop Hooks

Doorstop hooks integrate the functions of both a doorstop and a hook. They are ideal for toilet stall doors and so on.

Specialised Hooks

There are also hooks designed for specific purposes, such as hanging hangers or ties.

Panel Hangers

Panel hangers are hanging brackets with a long inlay, for putting up panels and so on. They allow for easy installation and removal of panels, with no tools required.

Ceilings and countertops

Hooks are typically wall-mounted, as shown in the left image, but there are also hooks that can be mounted onto ceilings or the underside of counter tops.

Choose by Brand

Zwei L Series

Zwei L combines profundity with inclusive curves and appreciable straight lines for a simple layout made to match various environments. The mirror polish reflects its surroundings while the satin finish gently absorbs its colours, creating a playful harmony in diverse spaces.
Use Zwei L hooks with handles and knobs of the same finish for total design coordination.

PXB Series

The PXB Series by LAMP features many distinctive designs, from country-style hooks for that vintage charm, to brightly-coloured silicone rubber models. Due to their special construction, with no visible mounting screws, the design of the hooks themselves will not clash with the decor of a space. (Certain products do have visible mounting screws.)
Additionally, products are available that can be fully coordinated with handles, towel racks, light switches, and plug sockets.

Load Capacity of Hooks

When choosing a hook, the weight of the object hanging from it needs to be taken into account.
A hook's load capacity is expressed as "load capacity N" or "load capacity kgf", which represents the load they can withstand. Be sure to select a hook with a load capacity which exceeds the weight of the objects being hung from it.

Load capacity is tested by gently applying a load to the direction shown in the diagram. The strength of the wall that a hook is mounted to is also important. Make sure that hooks are mounted onto a sufficiently strong wall, and be sure to test them first if they will be used in adverse conditions.
Sugatsune offers a wide array of hooks with heights ranging from 25 mm to 300 mm, and load capacities from approximately 1 kgf to 100 kgf.
